You were taught math by teachers in High School.
You've taken math courses in High School or in Home School. In those courses, you did
Well, it doesn't matter how well you
did in math.
The College Entrance Exams, SAT or ACT, are a different kind of test and you need to study for them.
If you wait until you start the actual test to read the instructions, you will get a grade much less than you expect.
Each type of math question requires you to know some some additional information that you can really only know if you practice
taking some tests. Some of the questions are 'trick' questions: not really wanting the answer, as you would expect from
your High School teacher, but wanting the results of some intermediate step.
In school, the teacher tells you what
is important.
In school, the teacher tells you what is important, feeds you problems that are like the ones on the test,
has quizzes, and homework so that you will become familiar with how the teacher will grade. You get
- class lecture
- explanations
- textbook to read (who reads that?)
- homework problems (sample problems)
- practice tests (quizzes)
- major tests
- some chances to make up bad grades
For the SAT or ACT test, you have to
tell yourself what is important.
The actual SAT or ACT Math test is just like a High School final exam. So studying for the
SAT or ACT Math test is just like taking another High School Math course except that you have to be your own teacher and provide

How can you be your own teacher?
You need to get a preparation workbook, read the explanation material, work through several practice tests, and then read
how to correctly solve the problems you missed. If you were a whiz in math at school, your study time will be less
than for other people, but you still need to study with practice tests.
